Bedford Gardens, London

A contemporary garden linking a house and a mews house over an extensive basement roof. A simple clean design with an open feel. A large lawn is edged with a wide stone trim, which connects the two buildings. Columns of Carpinus betulus line the tall inner courtyard walls, interspersed with white and cream climbing roses. A small front garden is dominated by a multi-stemmed Osmanthus, enclosed with a yew hedge to help create privacy. A difficult shaded alley where no soil was available is edged with false bamboo to create permanent interest from inside the house.
